Gadolinium is the active ingredient in several different brands of contrast dyes used to enhance MRI and MRA images. In April of 2006, reports began to surface that certain patients using gadolinium dyes were developing nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF). NSF is a disease which causes a thickening of the skin, connective tissues, muscles and internal organs throughout the body. There is no known treatment for NSF, it becomes worse over time and can lead to death. Gadolinium is a paramagnetic metal ion. It is the active ingredient in several different brands of contrast dye used to enhance MRI and MRA images. The dye is injected into the bloodstream by injection or IV before or during the MRI procedure. The dye runs through the system creating contrast so that the MRI image is easier to read. Dyes that contain gadolinium are referred to as gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs). Five gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) have been approved for use in the United States:
YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS
If you have developed NSF or NSF symptoms after undergoing an MRI or MRA procedure using contrast dye, then you may be entitled to compensation from the gadolinium drug companies. You may be compensated for the pain and suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement, physical impairment, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, and lost wages that you have suffered as a result of having NSF. The Law Firm of Berke & Lubell represents people across the country who have been injured by gadolinium dyes. We are currently prosecuting lawsuits against the gadolinium drug companies. Our experienced pharmaceutical team provides case evaluations. We also accept referrals from other attorneys. Pharmaceutical companies owe a moral and legal responsibility to the public to ensure that their drugs are not unreasonably dangerous and that consumers know the risks associated with the drug. The business of pharmaceuticals in the U.S. is highly competitive and is worth billions of dollars. Unfortunately, in the interest of increasing sales, many drug companies are hastily introducing and marketing new drugs prematurely and without adequate warnings, resulting in tragic losses that could have been avoided. The law firm of Berke & Lubell has the experience, the resources, and the determination to stand up against these pharmaceutical giants and fight for the rights of people who have been injured by their dangerous drugs. If you or someone you know has been injured by gadolinium dyes, contact us for a case evaluation by one of our pharmaceutical attorneys.
